With a concept from Mike Dada, I worked with Charlie Evans, Mark D Powers, and Ricky Mendia to create The Face of Dali. We quickly settled on this inconic portrait of him because it allows for a layout that has him emerging from the corner and gives a stage for animations. It was installed in Dada Bar in April of 2018 (Dada Bar closed in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic). Dali’s rich body of work provided many opportunities for animations that I was able to create.
Below is a particular section based off of Dali’s 1952 painting called Galatea of the Spheres. I broke down the elements of the painting to create different characters to animate. Various pieces were cut out of the painting and then animated back into the original layout.
